Contractor shall provide and maintain environmental protection defined herein.
B. The Contractor's operation shall comply
with all Saudi Arabian, and local laws, ordinances and regulations pertaining
to environmental protection.

which has factory- installed antipollution and noise control devices which are
fully operational.
1.3 PROTECTION
OF NATURAL RESOURCES
A. General:
Requirements of this article are in addition to the Special Condition
"Protection of Property." It
is intended that the natural resources within the boundaries and outside the
limits of the work site shall be preserved in their existing condition or be
restored to an equivalent of the existing condition, as approved by the Owner,
upon completion of the work. The
Contractor shall confine his on-site construction activities to areas defined
by the contract.
B. Protection of Existing Waterways and
Highways: Waste of any kind shall not be
dumped into or be allowed to fall into the sea, onto adjacent banks, or onto
highways. This shall include paint splatters and spillage during painting
operations. Care shall be taken to
prevent damage and injury to personnel, vessels, and vehicles using waterways,
highways, or pedestrian ways. Devices
shall be provided and maintained by the Contractor as required to prevent such
occurrences. Any material or items
falling into the sea, onto adjacent banks, or onto highways shall be promptly
removed.
C. Land
Resources:
1. Except in areas
indicated to be cleared, the Contractor shall not remove, cut, deface, injure,
or destroy vegetation without special permission from the Owner.
2. The Contractor
shall submit a plan for protecting existing vegetation that is to remain and
that may be injured, bruised, defaced, and otherwise damaged by construction
operations.
3. Rocks that are
displaced into un cleared areas shall be removed. Monuments, markers, and works of art shall be
protected prior to the start of operations.
4. A
preconstruction survey including photographs shall be accomplished by the
Contractor and a copy of survey furnished to the Owner.
5. Repair and
Restoration: All trees and other
landscape features scarred or damaged by the Contractor's equipment and
operations shall be repaired and restored to their original condition in
accordance with the requirements of Section 01030 and at no cost to the Owner.
D. Water
Resources:
1. Temporary
culverts or bridge structures shall be removed, if used, upon completion of the
project and the area repaired in conformance with its original condition and as
specified herein before.
2. At all times, measures shall be taken
to prevent oil or other hazardous substances from entering the ground, drainage
areas, and local bodies of water.
E. Fish and Wildlife Resources: The Contractor shall not alter water flows
and otherwise disturb native habitat adjacent to the work site.
F. Protection
of Existing Wetlands and Watercourses:
1. Work shall be
planned, scheduled, and undertaken in a manner that will ensure the protection
and preservation of existing wetlands and watercourses.
2. Work in and
around wetlands and watercourses shall be undertaken in a manner that will
prevent significant impact upon public health, safety, and welfare.
1.4 EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROL MEASURES
A. Burn-off
of ground cover will not be permitted.
B. Borrow areas shall be managed and
controlled to prevent sediment from entering nearby water. Restoration of the area, including areas
outside the borrow area disturbed by the borrow and haul operations shall
include grading, replacement of topsoil, and establishment of permanent
vegetation cover. The vertical sides of
the borrow pit shall be uniformly graded to a slope of not more than 30
degrees. The bottom of borrow pits shall
be uniformly graded to provide a flat bottom and shall be drained by outfall
ditches or other suitable measures approved by the Owner.
C. Reduction of Exposure of Unprotected
Erodible Soils: Side slopes and
backslopes shall be protected immediately upon completion of rough
grading. Operations in connection with earthwork
shall be planned and conducted in such a manner as to minimize the duration of
exposure of unprotected soils.
D. Temporary
Protection of Erodible Soils:
1. Such methods as
necessary shall be used to effectively prevent erosion and control
sedimentation.
2. Temporary protection
shall be provided on all side slopes and back slopes as soon as rough grading
is completed or sufficient soil is exposed to require protection to prevent
erosion.
1.5 CONTROL AND DISPOSAL OF CHEMICAL WASTE
A. Chemical waste shall be stored in NFPA
approved corrosion resistant containers with lids, removed from the project
site, and disposed of as necessary, but not less frequently than monthly. Disposal of chemical waste shall be in
accordance with standard established practices as approved by the Owner.
B. Fueling and lubricating of equipment and
motor vehicles on-site shall be conducted in a manner that affords the maximum
protection against spills and evaporation. Lubricants to be discarded,
including burned oil, shall be disposed of in accordance with approved
procedures meeting local regulations.
For oil and hazardous material spills that may be large enough to
violate local regulations, the Owner shall be notified immediately.
1.6 WASTE DISPOSAL

off the work site and accomplish disposal in compliance with local
requirements. The Contractor shall
obtain a permit prior to transporting any material off the work site. Waste materials shall not be burned on the

disturbed by the Contractor's operations and materials stockpiled for the
project shall be treated with dust suppressors or covered to control dust. No dry power brooming shall be
permitted. Vacuuming, wet mopping, wet
sweeping, or wet power brooming shall be used instead. Air blowing is permitted only for cleaning
off nonparticle debris, such as that from reinforcing bars. Sandblasting shall not be permitted except as
